Our Pathways Taskforce is seeking 6-10 volunteers to participate in this summer’s 6 week “Exploring Architecture” afterschool program. We will host six once-a-week sessions for 3 hours each on Mondays starting in June. Course activities will involve analog drawing exercises, tours of local landmarks and jobsites. Come and share your passion and expertise for Architecture, no teaching experience required!
Our program will be hosted in partnership with Riverfront Development Group as part of their overall programming focus on combatting our region’s Racial Achievement Gap and outreach to public school students. Volunteers will be expected to co-lead one session of instruction for 2-3 hours. AVL AIA will provide resources, scheduling and support for volunteers and lessons may be tailored to your own area of expertise or interest.
This is all about outreach with a special focus on fostering diversity and exploring the parts and people who make our built environment a reality. We will be working with 6-8th grade students who are gaining career awareness with the goals of fostering creative design thinking skills and facilitating access to the profession.
To sign up, please fill out this form. Someone from the Taskforce will contact you to discuss the next steps.
