Intent

Emerging talent deserves recognition. The AIA Young Architects Award honors individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the architecture profession early in their careers.

Eligibility

AIA members residing and licensed to practice architecture in North Carolina, whose initial date of licensure in any US jurisdiction is less than 10 years, and who is a member in good standing with AIA North Carolina, is eligible for the North Carolina Young Architect Award. Individuals who are current officers of the Chapter Board or members of the Chapter Awards Committee are ineligible for consideration.

Criteria

Candidates must demonstrate noteworthy achievements in one or more of the following areas:

• The contributions the candidate has made to the advancement of architectural design and design discourse.

• The contributions the candidate has made to the advancement of AIA and its leadership, either through local, state, or national components.

• The contributions the candidate has made to the advancement of architectural education.

• The contributions the candidate has made towards the betterment of the local community.

• The candidate shall have evidenced the nurturing and mentoring of next generation architects.

Nomination

A nomination for this award can be made by any North Carolina Associate AIA or AIA member and are due September 5, 2022. Self-nominations are allowed. Nominations will be made online using the OpenWater system. 

Submission

Each submission shall contain the following:

• At least one and up to three letters of support or nomination by AIA North Carolina members in good standing, that summarize the contributions made by the candidate, each letter not to exceed one page.

• A brief biography and curricula vitae of the candidate, not to exceed three pages.

• A brief summary of the candidate’s achievements and contributions to the Institute, not to exceed one page.

• Up to 10 pages of any other supporting exhibits that the candidate chooses to support their nomination. (Design portfolio, descriptions of community work, etc.)

• The information provided should highlight achievements, contributions, and design excellence of the individual.

Submissions are due September 25, 2022 must be submitted online using the online OpenWater system. 

Jury

The Chapter Awards Committee, appointed yearly by the Chapter President and chaired by the Immediate Past President, is responsible for reviewing the nominations and selecting a recipient for the North Carolina Young Architect Award.
